This provides the base knowledge for undertaking mobile operations on either category A and B road environments or the shoulder of category C road environments.
This learning block is not appropriate if the person is required to be in charge of mobile operations to install, maintain or remove TTM at static worksites. The STMS category A, B, or C learning blocks cover this activity.
Topics include:
- complete risk assessment for the mobile activity
- calculate layout distances for mobile operations
- complete mobile operations and closures
- complete semi-static closures.
Who should complete the learning block?
Any person wishing to complete mobile operations as an onsite STMS.
This warrant is not appropriate if the person is required to be in charge of mobile operations to install, maintain or remove TTM at static worksites.

There is a non-practising warrant, STMS (M)-NP Waka Kotahi NZTA warrant only
Unit standard
There are currently no unit standards for this learning block.
Duration and type of learning
The learning consists of a one-day knowledge workshop delivered by a TTM Trainer.
This is followed by On-Road Verification/Assessments for those wishing to gain the practising warrant.
Assessment
The trainee will be assessed by a TTM Assessor on the practical components of the role - booked by appointment (assessments@tmacademy.co.nz)

Compulsory Proof of Identification requirement for enrolment:
- National Student Number (NZQA RoL) or
- Passport (current) or
- Birth Certificate or
- Driver License
What to bring:
- Bring reading spectacles if required.
- Casual dress code (NO WORK BOOTS)
- Water Bottle / Rainsuit (weather permitted) / Warm Jacket
- Photo of each attendee will be taken at start of course for ID Card
Parking & Train Instructions:
- Park on site at the office (Limited spots available) OR any on street parking (free).
- Take note of possible Event Signs (Fridays) 3pm limit
- Penrose Train Station across the road from Office
- Bus Stop Routes 7627/ 7624 / 7997 / 8692 in front of the office

On Successful completion of this course
Following the completion of the STMS Mobile Non-Practising workshop, next step is to gain the STMS (M) Practicing warrant.
Assessment
The trainee will be assessed by a TTM Assessor on the practical components of the role - booked by appointment (assessments@tmacademy.co.nz)
This will consist of:
- 2 mobile closures verified by your TTM Mentor, and
- 1 mobile closure observed by a TTM Assessor

Prerequisites
Prerequisites
- Current STMS (M) -NP, and
- TC or TMO current or expired no more than 12 months; or
- STMS practising of any category current or expired; or
- STMS of any level current or expired.
